Lemlin's vegetarian dishes will appeal to everyone. Even if you're a meat eater, Lemlin reminds us, you still need side dishes and starters, and sometimes even a vegetarian meal.

Lemlin's recipes are simple and easy to follow, and very few require any advance preparation. In this ideal starter book, Lemlin (Vegetarian Pleasures; Simple Vegetarian Pleasures) presents the comfort foods that have sustained the vegetarian movement for the past 40 years. She introduces the new vegetarian to staples like bulgur, wheat berries and rice in a helpful guide to ingredients, along with a few standard recipes such as Classic Tabbouli, Classic Cold Noodles with Peanut Sauce and Classic Lentil Soup. Yet Lemlin isn't puritanical; eschewing the heavy lentil and sunflower-seed loafs of yesteryear, she encourages cooking that is "more in keeping with our need for pleasure." Thus, she includes Tortellini with Spinach, Garlic and Smoked Cheese but not, say, Whole Wheat Spaghetti with Tofu and Tomato Sauce. Still, there's little here to satisfy the gourmand: some dishes are bland (Chickpea Soup with Garlic Crostini), all of the tart dishes call for frozen puff pastry and bread crumbs appear in otherwise respectable recipes (Crustless Yellow Squash, Red Pepper and Spinach Pie and Greens, Potato and Feta Cheese Pie). However, the dessert chapter, with Upside-Down Pear Gingerbread and Lemon Almond Cake, will satisfy even the most discerning sweet tooth. Too many vegetarian cookbook writers forget the joys of white flour, but not Lemlin: homey recipes like Ginger Cream Scones, Best-Ever Doughnuts and even a popover recipe make this a must-have for beginning bakers and vegetarians alike. Lemlin is the author of several other vegetarian cookbooks, including the excellent Vegetarian Pleasures. Once again, she offers a wide-ranging collection of simple, flavorful dishes, from a homey Classic Split Pea Soup to an elegant Leek Tart to a rich White Chocolate and Raspberry Cheesecake a far cry from the heavy lentil loaves and carob brownies that once typified vegetarian food. Lemlin's recipes should appeal to both vegetarians and "meat eaters" alike, making her book especially useful for families where there are some of each. Highly recommended.

A Really Great Vegetarian Cookbook

'Vegetarian Classics' was my first cookbook by Jeanne Lemlin, author of 'Quick Vegetarian Pleasures.' This is one of the best vegetarian cookbooks I've bought. I use 'Vegetarian Classics' along side my 'Better Homes & Gardens Cookbook.' There's 300 great recipes for every course and meal. I find this differs from other cookbooks which has interesting introduction and history of vegeterian origins. Did you know that St. Franics of Assisi, Leonardo da Vinci, Percy B. Shelley and George Bernard Shaw were all vegetarians? There's an alphabetical list of food ingredients used in the recipes from barley to wheat berries. It explains what each food is and it's use.

The book is easy to follow as every food is put in it's own category starting with the basics and appetizers to everything from soups, salads, breads, side dishes, all types of pies, pastas, stovetop cooking and desserts. In the back there is a handy menu layout to give you ideas for casual, elegant, summer and holiday meals. In each section Lemlin has side notes and colored blocks of additional information and tips like for perfect brown rice, about olives with an excellent recipe for marinated olives, frittatas, cooking beans, choosing & preparing potatoes, successful puff pastry tarts, cookies and polenta are just a few of the items you'll find in the book. Most of the recipes are simple and easy to follow instructions. I love the guide to light breads, flaky scones and tender muffins. The masala chai is heavenly and the mixed berry smoothie yummy. Even if you're a semi-vegetarian or not, and just looking for new ways to cook your veggies this book is excellent!

Best vegetarian cookbook EVER!!!!!!

I cannot say enough good things about this cookbook. I think it would be safe to say that I have close to 30 vegetarian cookbooks, and this is the only one I've been satisfied with. I've made close to 20 recipes out of this cookbook so far, and EVERY single one has been a hit---not only with me but with my non-vegetarian husband. It is SO hard to find a vegetarian cookbook that actually has tasty recipes made from ingredients that are easily accessible, and this book offers just that.

The best thing about this book is that I am now willing to make recipes out of it that wouldn't otherwise sound appealing to me, since I have no doubt that they will be delicious nonetheless. I would not hesitate to try a new recipe from this cookbook while serving guests, either, which I can't say about any of my other books.

My only complaint, if I had to make one, would be that there aren't any recipes that use seitan, which is one of my favorite vegetarian staples. I don't know if any of Lemlin's other cookbooks (which I now plan to purchase) make up for that, but it's only a minor complaint, since all the recipes are so good anyway.

In sum, if you are a vegetarian, or even if you aren't, buy this cookbook NOW! I'm so glad that I happened upon it---it has really energized my cooking.

It all comes back to the power of the tongue. We speak our reality into existence. If we speak negative, then negative is what we have. If we speak positive, then positive is what we have. The premise of the book isn't so much about money, and God's ability to provide, its more about our attitude, what we say and what we do. When we are without money, do we seem to speak words of doubt, disbelief, negative energies? I know I was! A change of your spoken words works miracles.

Charles Capp's book on Finances

This little book met all my expectations for a mini book on the subject of finances. I am familiar with Charles Capps. He explains things in layman's terms, uses Scripture and examples from his own life and experiences. Most of all he tells you "how to" believe for your finances in a Biblical way. I love books that tell me the methods and the steps to do something.He also includes some examples and makes the subject very practical. I recommend it to anyone who is interested in adding God into their financial life.

This book `Optimizing Energy Efficiencies in industry', written by Dr.G.G.Rajan, who has over 36 years of experience in various phases of fertilizer and petroleum refineries, is an excellent approach to Energy Management of Industries.This is based on real life data of different energy parameters which must be considered for efficient performance management of major chemical industries.
The fact that the book originally published by Tata McGraw Hill, India in December 2001 has been republished by McGraw Hill, US adds merit to the book and the author as well.
This book covering a number of examples related to energy performance optimization of heaters, boilers, pumps, compressors, turbines, heat exchangers etc is an excellent asset for operations engineers, plant managers etc for taking equipment maintenance or shut down decisions as and when the energy efficiency of their major equipment falls below the specified limits. Such timely action could benefit the industry substantially.
The innovative approach adopted by the author is an excellent least cost tool to maintain energy efficiency of the system / sub system so as to minimize the operating cost and increase profit margin.
Methods to calculate energy efficiencies of individual equipment using efficiency curves , empirical relations, models and derived equations are also covered with appropriate examples . Using the statistic parameters, it is possible to monitor the energy efficiencies of the total system and generate an MIS report for corrective action by the managers in time and avert a costly failure and production loss.
In the current power scenario (where each kilo watt of power generated and consumed matters) the ideas presented in the book may be deployed to improve the power plant efficiency (boiler, turbine, compressor etc) and simultaneously reduce outages and power generation cost.

Psychosocial Aspects of Health Care addresses a variety of integrated psychosocial topics, involving clients, families, and other caregivers affected by pathology, impairment, functional limitation, and/or disability. This book is intended for students in the health care professions, such as nurses, physical and occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, physicians and physician assistants, respiratory therapists, social workers, and students in the medical laboratory sciences. While it targets students, the text may also serve as a reference for those already practicing in their respective disciplines.

As a textbook, it could fit well into various levels of the curriculum wherever a course specifically addresses or includes psychosocial aspects of illness and disability, such as courses in social psychology of disability and rehabilitation, chronic illness, and rehabilitation psychology. This textbook would also be useful in courses that include issues in communication, family relationships, client-professional relationships, characteristics of illness and disability, adaptation to impairment and disability, manifestations of client behavior, grieving and adjusting to loss, sources of stress and support, and attitudinal and cultural differences. Therefore, it can be thought of as multilevel, being incorporated into basic, intermediate, and advanced courses.

We had three compelling reasons to write such a text. The primary purpose is to help readers understand that a key ingredient for clinical competence and professional excellence is the human factor. Second, we strongly believe in the need for clinicians to understand psychosocial aspects of health care so that they may best help clients optimize their therapeutic outcomes. This foundation area is often overlooked or devalued in favor of the "hard core" components of health care. Lastly, as educators with collectively over 100 years of experience with clients and students, we are concerned with the reported and perceived lack of students' interest in textbooks, level of readership, and appreciation of the importance of this subject in their treatment armamentarium. We believe that the style and approach of this book will hold the readers' attention and enhance their understanding of the material.

The book is divided into six parts, each subdivided into chapters. Relevant clinical examples are interspersed throughout every chapter, punctuating topic points. Real-life student journal entries introduce and are entwined throughout every chapter, reinforcing the subject, identifying biases and "too-quick" conclusions, and portraying a cross-section of disciplines, ethnicity, and cultures of health care professionals. The description and reflection of realistic, although fictitious, clinical situations add to the fabric of the discussion, creating a living case study, a breathing client problem. Reflective questions conclude each chapter, allowing for individual musings, classroom discussion, small group exercises, and student assignments. Additional readings are suggested to engage readers in further personal accounts, histories, and insights. Readers will develop self-awareness as they learn more about the psychosocial issues of health care.

Part I, "Making a Connection: Talking, Listening, and Showing You Care," addresses components of effective communication, motivation and adherence, family needs, roles, and responsibilities, and understanding your own beliefs as a health provider. Part II, "Shared Goal-Setting: Client-Professional Collaboration," explores quality of life, clients' rights and provider responsibilities, collaborative treatment-planning, and the mind-body-spirit connection. Part III, "Defining Self," discusses body image and self-concept, condition-specific characteristics, and sexuality. Part IV, "Responses to Illness and Disability that Complicate Care," considers psychiatric disorders, self-destructive behaviors, and chronic illness. Part V, "The Continuum of Loss, Grieving, and Adjustment," delves into understanding loss/grief, and adjustment related to disease, disability, and death. Finally, Part VI, "Attitudes and Perspectives: Respecting Human Differences," examines client, caregiver, and health provider personalities, attitudinal and cultural differences, and conflict.

Because readers of this text come from many health care disciplines, each with its own jargon, we have had to make editorial decisions for the sake of consistency. We have used "client" to name those with whom we work. "Caregiver" refers to personal caregivers and may be family, friends, or others with caregiving responsibilities. Variations of "health care professionals" and "health care providers" represent the readership, those who have chosen to make a career of providing care. Examples of clients and caregivers reflect both the diversity and lifespan issues inherent in today's health care environment. Similarly, the health professions and the students in the journal entries also depict our changing world.

Great and easy book to read, learn and discuss the topics with family, friends and colleagues. Definitely, topics that all health care providers should become more familiar with. The book helps you understand what our patients and their families/caregivers are going through which ultimately would enable us to provide better care.

A decent book to have on hand. Most of it is common sense and I purchased this for an online class. The class was easy and a bit of a joke, but if this is the main area of your field of interest then go for it. It arrived in a timely fashion and in good condition.

It's OK if you are new to Holley

It seems as though the author took a lot of time and effort to write a really basic book. I didn't find much in modifying my carb. Most of it was information that is free if you call Holley tech support. The only modifications I found tell you it's strictly for a race vehicle, NOT a street rod. I was disappointed but if you don't want to go through the hassle of calling Holley and waiting a long time for tech support, then I guess it's OK.

Informative and to the point, though the first chapter on the history of carburetors is not really required for a technical book. Found the theory of operation especially helpful as a foundation for the specific operation of Holley carbs- or any for that matter. Very easy to read and understand. It's not a have-it-on-the-fender book like a Chilton's, but if you're looking for a good primer on how your Holley operates before tearing into it- it's worth the money. Will likely pay for itself in avoiding unnecessary upgrades. Also sections for race and high performance tuning. Lot's of good, sensible advice from someone that's been doing carb tuning for a long time and can transfer the knowledge through clear writing and illustrations.

This book gave me a complete understanding about carburetor function! Some give it bad reviews because they expect like so many others for it to be an "instruction manual" for their specific application. It is exactly what the title says and is not contradictory (as i have also seen in other reviews.) you need to read it to understand why a carburetor works the way it works! Very satisfied!

"The Autobiography of Calvin Coolidge" is a fabulous autobiography. Calvin Coolidge was a good man and a good writer, and in his autobiography, Cooidge talks about growing up, his career in law and politics, his family, and everything anybody would want to learn about President Coolidge. People who are interested in becoming President should read Calvin Coolidge's autobiography: Coolidge shared with his readers some duties of the President and what seeking a third term can do to you. How a President is elected has changed since Coolidge's time, but Coolidge became President because of the death of his sucessor, Warren G. Harding. Even though Coolidge shared his opinion, anybody in the White House because of the death of their sucessor should take Coolidge's opinion. Calvin Coolidge was a good man, and there are lessons everyone could benefit from by reading his autobiography.

The life story of an unsung American hero

President Calvin Coolidge was a good man and great President who deserves to remembered for more than his reticence. Read here the life story of the President who grew up learning that hard work and a thoughtful outlook are the keys to success. He cut taxes four times and vetoed agricultural subsidies twice. He was unusually tolerant of minorities for his time. The story of President Coolidge is one that deserves to be read. Conservatives and libertarians will find his story especially appropriate for their children.

Christian Ministry - Ouside the Box

Richard Mull candidly relates the story of how God broke into his very natural existence in a supernatural way. "The Jesus Training Manual" is made up of two parts: Mull's personal encounter with God and the Biblical foundations for experiencing the God of the Bible, hearing His voice, walking in His authority and power, and finding His will for your life.

Mull advocates that God still works in the realm of the miraculous, that demons are real and we can know how to deal with them. He gives Biblical principles and truths about the Kingdom of God, healing, spiritual battles, and our spiritual armor for fighting those battles.

I found the study questions at the end of each chapter practical, probing, and heart searching, personally opening up the possibility of considering new perspectives on the meaning of discipleship and experiencing Christ's fullness in my walk with Him. These exercises become a vital core to the training manual especially when opportunities are available to discuss in a group or classroom situation along with the supporting material provided in the book's narrative.

Mull's unique story is one of allowing his character to be shaped and reshaped as the result his perseverance in praying to become a transformer of lives through a ministry to individuals tormented by fear, anxiety, depression, and negative thinking.

Living a Life of Miracles, Signs and Wonders

This author (although unknown before to me) has captured in a beautiful and loving manner, in his writings, one of the best books to serve as a training manual for each Christian to learn, grow and serve in the miracles, signs and wonders of our Lord.
Have you thought about it? How many sermons, Bible studies, small group meetings have addressed the over 30 miracles recorded in the gospels for each of us to learn how to apply what Jesus was and is teaching us in His miracles? Probably not too many!
The author discusses in 9 chapters his person encounter with God, and then in 7 more chapters he provides for us the biblical foundations to help us learn what our life today should be as we follow Jesus.
This is a great book and one to be used as a guide with the Bible for teachings as we all learn to operate in the miracles, signs and wonders of our Lord. Read and grow in the life of our Lord His son Jesus and the Holy Spirit.

Being Discipled by Jesus

Richard Mull reminds me of the Apostle Paul. Richard, the author was educated in seminary had a position as a youth pastor. Everything was going great until God no longer fit the box of Richard's theology. Richard knew how to make programs, sermons, and counsel people. He did not understand what it meant or how to disciple people. He also did not believe that God healed today or did signs and miracles. Similarly to Paul, Richard had his experience with God. This was done through another man who was sent by God to destroy his theological box. Richard then spent time re-examining the Scriptures for himself to see what they revealed. It changed the way he understood Scripture. The first part of the book is Richard's journey from god shattering his theological box to his current understanding of God. The second half of the book is how this new understanding has healed and set people free. Richard does not just want to make Christians, but disciples of Jesus who can do the same things that Jesus and His disciples did. Jesus was able to train the 12 and the 72 to do the same things He did. Would you like to walk in the same power as Jesus did? Do you want to be discipled by Jesus? Open your hearts and minds to what Richard has to offer. Check the Scriptures to see if what he says is true as you read the book. you could be a disciple of Jesus and do the same things that He has done in greater measure.
