This is a very thorough guidebook that will lead you through every single rock and crag in this chain of volcanic Japanese islands. The author is sensitive to cultural and social characteristics of the islands as well as their geographic and environmental specificities. It is a very comprehensive work. Je l'ai suggeré à mes amis français qui vont voyager au Japon cet été. C'est vraiment un très bon guide touristique. Il a même des références à l'ancien royaume du Ryukyu, qui fait parti de l'histoire de la région. Très utile et très intéressant.

The book is great! It covers so much about the islands that any prospective visitor would want to know. The places to visit and what to expect, helps the traveler decide which places he or she would like to see and thus maximize his or her time accordingly. The pictures further help in the selection process, as one can now get a better idea of the local flavor and again, what to expect. The maps make the planning process easy and give the viewer a better idea of where everything is and how to best navigate the many islands - this handy book is an indispensable guide to the islands.

Great gift for anyone getting stationed there.

Just spent 10 days in Okinawa and this book was very useful. I recommend it to anyone traveling there or as a gift for anyone getting stationed there. Very accurate and up to date. Map was very useful too. We went to visit people stationed there and this guide had many spots they had never heard of. I was very happy I brought this along. And the book is not too big, so it's easy to carry with you in a purse or small backpack.
