People by the "who" more than they buy the "what." Make sure they know who you are.

I bought this book about a month ago and got through it pretty quickly. It's very well written, with clear explanations and examples. In some ways it targets the UK public, but for the most part it applies to everybody who is a little hesitant about blowing his or her own horn.
I recommend this book very highly to anybody with any ambition. As Jennifer Holloway points out, you'll need to develop your personal brand both for outside your current company and for what you do inside. People by the "who" more than they buy the "what." Make sure you know who you are and are communicating it clearly in all the ways you interact with people (in person, on the phone, in email, on linkedin, and so forth). Make sure people know what they are going to get when they work with you.
I'll finish with another excellent point made by Holloway, be authentic. Not everybody is going to like your brand, you can count on that. So communicate who you are clearly and face the fact that not everybody will like it.

Buy several books for your comrades, they will thank you

Whether it's in person, in the office, or online, Jennifer delivers the how-to of creating, promoting and maintaining your personal brand. I personally love the real-life, easy to read examples on every other page titled, "here's what I'm talking about." Go ahead and purchase several books and pass them out to your colleagues. They will thank you!
